Thousands of discarded bottles collected during Riverfest in Limerick

The return of bottles and cans in Ireland can lead to a rebate of up to 25c per item

ALMOST 5,000 bottles and cans were collected during last month's Riverfest celebrations, with a charity getting a welcome boost in return.

During the May Bank Holiday festival, designated workers collected 4,830 containers.

These were deposited to Re-turn machines, which refunds either 15c or 25c per item.

In total €738.90 was raised for charity.
