Reforming Limerick Education Minister to be honoured at place of his passing

Sixmilebridge honour for man who brought in free secondary education
A PLAQUE to honour former Education Minister Donogh O’Malley will be unveiled by one of his successors in the role next weekend.
Hildegarde Naughton will be in Sixmilebridge on Sunday, September 6, to reveal the plaque, which has been created by the village’s historical society.
Proceedings get under way at 11am at the Little Church.
Mr O’Malley, a Limerick Fianna Fail TD, famously brought in the legislation which saw free education for children up to 18.
But he died in 1968, only two years after bringing this in, suffering a fatal heart attack in Sixmilebridge while at a Fianna Fail rally.
All are welcome to the event.
There will be designated car parking for those in attendance.
