LIMERICK HAS taken centre stage in a major international development for Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), as the university signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST).
The agreement marks a significant expansion of TUS’s global reach and will create new academic, cultural, and innovation-driven opportunities for students and staff.
At the heart of the partnership is enhanced academic collaboration and expanded exchange programmes. TUS students will gain new opportunities to study in Shanghai, one of the world’s most dynamic and influential cities.

The MoU also includes Summer programmes offering flexible, short-term international study experiences.
The signing followed a visit to TUS’s Limerick and Athlone campuses by a USST delegation led by Vice President Zhao Ming.
Their time in Limerick included a tour of the renowned Limerick School of Art and Design before the agreement was formally signed by Vice President Zhao Ming and TUS Vice President Internationalisation & Alumni, Donnacha McNamara.
TUS President, Professor Vincent Cunnane said: “This partnership aims to foster collaboration through the exchange of faculty, students and researchers, promoting innovation and global engagement between our two universities. It will enhance global learning opportunities for our students and faculty.”
