Multi-purpose facility earmarked for TUS campus on city's northside

TUS warned over parking provision at planned arena

A render of the proposed arena for Coonagh

THE TECHNOLOGICAL University of the Shannon (TUS) has been warned there is not enough car parking planned at its proposed new arena on the northside.
The college is seeking permission for the new structure near its newest campus at Coonagh.
The venue, which has a working title of City North Arena, would tower up 22.2 metres high.
It will feature a 200 metre running track along with 476 permanent seated viewing spots.

Since the planning application went in, however, planners have requested TUS provide extra information.
It wants the college to confirm the number of staff members it expects to be on site when the arena operates.
“There is substantial under-provision of car parking for this proposal,” they added.
Council has told TUS to provide proposals for increased car parking and bus parking. A decision will not be made until this information arrives.
