Green Limerick: Embracing outdoor spaces for Limerick on Foot 2025

IT’S TIME to lace up your walking shoes and step into a healthier, happier lifestyle as Limerick City and County Council unveils the 2025 Limerick on Foot campaign.

This campaign is described as a “vibrant initiative designed to inspire residents and visitors to immerse themselves in the breathtaking beauty of Limerick”.

Limerick on Foot champions walking, running, and hiking along some of Limerick’s most beloved routes, with a special 2025 spotlight on three trails in the county.

These include An Gleann Beag in Broadford, The Knight’s Walk in Glin, and Slievereagh Loop Walk in Kilfinane, which have all been highlighted as places to visit as part of this campaign.

These trails are enhanced with funding from the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS).

Donn O’Sullivan, head of marketing and communications at Limerick City and County Council, said: “We are thrilled to launch the 2025 Limerick on Foot campaign.

“This award-winning initiative promotes physical activity while showcasing the natural beauty of our county.

“The trails and new resources will provide residents and visitors with wonderful opportunities to enjoy the outdoors and stay active.”

Other parts of the campaign include Run it, Walk it, Love it with the Limerick on Foot Guide, a full route guide for walkers and cyclists, as well as updated print and digital guides for Limerick City Loop Walk and Three Bridges Walk.

The Kids Activity Sheet has been updated too for ideas what to do outdoors with little ones around the city and county, and the Council has also announced that they are running a competition for a prize giveaway on their socials, coming soon.

Mayor of Limerick John Moran said: “By exploring our beautiful trails, we are improving our physical and mental health.

“This aligns perfectly with the More Healthy Limerick pillar of the Mayoral Programme, emphasising the importance of physical activity on people’s physical and mental well-being.”
