DANCER and choreographer Mary Nunan is preparing to launch a new film installation celebrating women and community.
The course director of the MA in Contemporary Dance in the Irish World Academy in UL, worked over the past year with 30 women from all walks of Limerick life on the project, which is called Starting with T.
Backed by City of Culture and Limerick City Gallery of Art, the film installation is a community wide project, incorporating dance, writing, film and sound.
“The content for the film was developed during a series of dance workshops in which some ideas about women, peripheral space and community were explored,” Mary explains. “Stories and memories became the departure point for a journey that went ‘under the skin’ individual stories in search of deeper layers of connectivity.”
The film features ‘moving portraits’ of the women and is amplified by a sound track of them reading texts that they wrote during the workshops. The film installation opens in the Fab Lab, Rutland Street on Thursday, October 30 from 7pm and runs until November 29, Monday to Saturday.
