New gardaí to be assigned to Limerick City garda station

New gardaí who are being attested today at the garda college in Templemore will add to the policing efforts at Henry Street garda station in Limerick
EIGHT new probationary gardaí have been allocated to Henry Street garda station in Limerick City.
This follows the attestation of 207 garda recruits at the garda college in Templemore.
An Garda Síochána has now reached a record for the highest number of sworn gardaí since the foundation of the State at 14,980.
Of the 207 new gardaí attested today (October 16, 2026), 84 will be deployed to the Dublin region, 76 to the Eastern region, 27 to the North West and 20 to the South.
Fianna Fáil TD Willie O’Dea said the additional personnel will strengthen frontline policing and help to keep local communities safe.
“We now have the largest number of gardaí in the history of the State. This latest attestation, along with new recruits due to enter the garda college next week, demonstrates that a strong pipeline is being built to increase garda numbers in communities across the country.
“The allocation of eight new gardaí to Henry Street is particularly welcome. Every additional garda strengthens our local policing service in Limerick and helps ensure our communities receive the support and protection they deserve.”
Deputy O’Dea added: “High visibility policing remains a strong commitment for Fianna Fáil. Visible policing plays a vital role in preventing crime, supporting victims, and providing reassurance to our communities.
“Continued investment in garda recruitment and resources is essential to ensure An Garda Síochána can meet the demands placed upon it.
“The work being led by my colleague, Minister Jim O’Callaghan, is delivering real results. “Today’s allocation means more gardaí on our streets and stronger, safer communities.”
In Budget 2027, more than €2.75 billion was allocated to An Garda Síochána.
