Garda manhunt underway to find Limerick city native’s killer

A LIMERICK man has died after he was stabbed to death in Dublin in the early hours of this Sunday morning.

The 38-year-old, who was originally from the Garryowen area of Limerick city and who resided in Castleconnell for a period, had moved to Dublin. A garda manhunt is now underway to locate his killer.

A garda spokesperson said this Sunday that gardaí remain at the scene of a fatal assault which occurred at Blackhorse Avenue, Dublin 7.

“A male was discovered with serious injuries on the footpath at Blackhorse Place and conveyed from the scene to Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

“The scene has been preserved for forensic examination by the Garda Technical Bureau. The Coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist have been notified and a post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course,” said the garda spokesperson.

This investigation is being coordinated from an incident room at the Bridewell Garda Station under the direction of a Senior Investigating Officer.

The Irish Examiner, who first reported that the victim is from Limerick, described it as a “violent domestic row which ended in a fatal stabbing on a Dublin residential street”.

The deceased man, who has not been named as of yet, is understood to be well-known to gardai.

“Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward, particularly those who were in the Blackhorse Avenue/Blackhorse Place area or who may have video footage (including dash-cam) between 2am and 3.30am on the morning of Sunday, October 18.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Bridewell Garda Station on 01 666 8200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station,” said a garda spokesperson.
