Limerick gardai issue warning after man loses deposit as 'sale' of puppy falls through

Gardai at Newcastle West are investigating the incident

Gardai have issued a warning to people not to buy animals or other products from people they do not know following a recent incident in Newcastle West.

Gardai have confirmed they are aware a member of the public arranged to meet a male who was selling a puppy in a car park in the town in recent days.

"He handed over a deposit and was due to get the dog at a later date but any further attempts have been fruitless and cannot get in contact with the seller to date,” said Sergeant Kevin Balfe.

“As a result, this man has lost money. I would encourage people to be careful when making purchases from websites and handing over cash to unknown people for goods,” he added.

Gardai are advising people to ensure that any goods they are getting are of good quality and that they are satisfied before they hand over any cash.
