Gardai hunt down Limerick man after ferret was stolen during a burglary

GARDAI have arrested a Limerick man after a ferret was stolen in County Tipperary, Limerick Live has learned.

Gardai launched an investigation following the burglary at a property near Tipperary Town on Wednesday, January 7.

Detectives and uniformed gardai, backed up by the armed Regional Response Unit, swooped on a house in the Ballinacurra Weston area of Limerick city on Friday morning last. One man was arrested during the operation. He is understood to be a notorious criminal.

A garda spokesperson confirmed that gardaí investigating an incident of burglary that occurred in the Rathkea area of County Tipperary on Wednesday, January 7 arrested a man on Friday, January 9 as part of the ongoing investigations.

“The male, aged in his 30s, has since been charged and was due to appear in front of  Nenagh District Court on Friday, January 9 at 6.30 pm.

“As this is now a matter for the courts no further information is available,” said the garda spokesperson.

Limerick Live has learned that a ferret, along with other items, was stolen during the burglary in Tipperary. It is not known if the ferret was recovered and returned to its rightful owner.

One source said: “It’s a strange one, not too many thefts of ferrets have been investigated in the history of the State. Historically, they are great for hunting, they can get in anywhere so maybe this one was the Shergar of ferrets.”
