The court heard that on July 6, 2025, in the early hours of the morning, Mr Faulkner was “highly intoxicated” and had to be pepper-sprayed after behaving aggressively towards a garda who was on his own.

The court heard that Mr Faulkner has 110 previous convictions including misuse of drug offences, possession of knives, criminal damage, theft and some road traffic offences.

The district court heard that Mr Faulkner had suffered a bereavement and that “it was a very difficult time” and he resorted to substance abuse.

Judge Carol Anne Coolican sentenced the man to one week in prison for the Section 4 offence of being intoxicated in a public place.

The Section 6 offence of engaging in threatening or abusive behaviour in a public place was taken into consideration for the conviction.
