The man appeared before the court for an alleged speeding offence
A YOUNG driver who went to great effort to prove his innocence at Newcastle West District Court could be the victim of fraud.
The court heard that on May 29, 2025, a young man with an address in Dublin, was detected in Askeaton, on the N69, driving 161km in the 100km zone.

The man in question told the court that he put the car up for sale before the speed detection and that he was working in Dublin on the date in May.
"The car was not in use," he told the court.
He produced pictures of his registration plate, which differed in style to the speed camera image, and also receipts for his activities in Dublin on the day in question.
Once all of his evidence had been cross-checked by gardaí in court, the case was dismissed.
Inspector Gearóid Thompson told the court that in fairness to the man in question, they couldn't dispute his evidence.
He said: "He might be the victim of a cloned plate and it could warrant further investigation."
Judge Carol Anne Coolican dismissed the case and thanked the man for coming to court.
