‘Mind boggling’: Child drove e-scooter 'extremely dangerously’ in Limerick city

Gardaí have issued a warning to new e-scooter owners following a seizure that took place in the historical quarter of the city.

Limerick An Garda Síochána stated: “This scooter — only just out of the box more than 24 hours — was being driven extremely dangerously among pedestrians this evening in the Historical Quarter area of the city when Community Policing members from Henry Street encountered it.”

“The fact that someone would let a child out on it when it's not even legal for an adult is mind boggling.”

Gardaí further commented: “We've seized a number of this brand. This one capable of 55 km/h with a 1,000 watt motor is only legal off-road.”

The e-scooter was seized under the Road Traffic Act.

Should the owner wish to be reunited with the intercepted e-scooter, they will have to make an application to the district court to have it returned.

The garda post on Facebook concluded: “to anyone who got an e-scooter this Christmas: if it’s used dangerously, it can be seized by Gardaí.”
