THE DRIVER of a white hummer stretch limousine has been arrested in the city, Limerick Live has learned.

The luxury vehicles are popular for party-goers to celebrate special occasions. They are often equipped with sound systems, lighting, and comfortable seating.

A video, widely shared on social media, shows gardai standing at the side of the limousine on O’Connell Street on Saturday night.

Traffic was delayed for a period as motorists had to use the bus lane on O’Connell Street because the limousine was stopped on the main thoroughfare.

It's not known what part of the country that vehicle was travelling from or where it was destined for. A number of patrol cars and over 10 gardai were observed in the vicinity the limousine.

Limerick Live contacted gardai about the unusual sight.

A garda spokesperson said while on routine patrol gardaí stopped a vehicle on O’Connell Street in Limerick city yesterday, Saturday, August 2 at approximately 8.45pm.

“A male, aged in his 50s, was arrested and brought to Henry Street garda station. Investigations are ongoing,” said a garda spokesperson.

The nature of the alleged offence hasn’t been disclosed. It is believed the passengers in the limousine were not best pleased at their fun coming to an abrupt halt.

It is understood the limousine was seized as it was seen parked in a garda bay at the rear of Henry Street garda station this Sunday morning.
