A Revenue spokesperson has confirmed that as a result of routine operations, Revenue officers seized 149kgs of herbal cannabis in Shannon Airport this Monday.

AN INVESTIGATION has been launched following a significant drugs seizure at Shannon Airport.

A Revenue spokesperson has confirmed that as a result of routine operations, Revenue officers seized 149kgs of herbal cannabis in Shannon Airport this Monday.

"The illegal drugs, with an estimated value of €2,980,000, were discovered in parcels originating from Canada and were destined for an address in County Clare," they said.

No further details have been disclosed publicly and investigations into the seizure are ongoing.

Revenue says the seizure is part of its ongoing investigations involving organised crime groups and the importation, sale and supply of illegal drugs.
