A COLD caller who stole a substantial amount of cash from a pensioner in his own home is being investigated by gardaí.
On Saturday, February 22 shortly after 5pm, a man in his 80s answered his front door to a cold caller in the Carraward West area of Drumcollogher, Co Limerick.
“He [victim] met a male caller claiming to be cutting trees on behalf of an electricity provider and informed the victim he was returning on Tuesday to carry out the work,” said Sergeant Michelle O’Halloran, crime prevention officer at Henry St garda station.

“The victim invited the caller into his home to obtain contact details. While in the house, the male took a substantial amount of cash from the bedroom.”
Gardai in Newcastle West are investigating are appealing for any witnesses who may have been in the area and observed anyone acting suspicious in area to contact them on 069 20650.
