A TRACTOR driver is due to be sentenced in April over a collision which caused injuries to Gerry Murray - father of Lions, Ireland and Munster rugby player Conor Murray.

Seamus Hanrahan, aged 53, of Kilmore, Granagh, Co Limerick has pleaded guilty at Limerick Criminal Circuit Court to careless driving causing serious bodily harm to Mr Murray.

Mr Hanrahan was driving a tractor and tanker, while Mr Murray, 70, was cycling when the incident occurred at the M20 Attyflin, Patrickswell on February 7, 2023.

Mr Murray, from Patrickswell, suffered a brain bleed following the collision and was placed in an induced coma by doctors. After he was discharged from hospital, Mr Murray praised the “superb” paramedics, doctors and nurses for saving his life.

When the case was called this Monday, prosecuting barrister Lily Buckley, instructed by State solicitor Brendan Gill, said Mr Hanrahan made an “early plea” in the case.

A person accused of careless driving causing serious bodily harm is liable on conviction on indictment to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or to a fine not exceeding €10,000 or both.
