A FALSE advertisement for a Christmas fair and market to be held in Limerick has prompted a warning by gardaí.

A social media post detailing a false event, which is not taking place, has circulated widely online. The so-called Christmas fair and market details an advertisement for business owners looking to set up stalls at Limerick Racecourse on December 7 and 8.

Gardaí have appealed to people to “not engage or circulate” the post.

“We’ve become aware that this false advertisement for a Christmas fair and market to be held on December 7 and 8 at Limerick Racecourse is in wide circulation online and in messaging apps,” gardaí in Limerick posted in a statement on social media.

“Please be advised this Christmas fair is not planned and we’re asking that you do not engage with or circulate this false advertisement online.”

Gardaí have asked anyone who has encountered an issue in relation to the false advertisement to contact them at Roxboro garda station on 061 214 340.
