THE man charged in connection to the death of Maciej Nowak at a property close to the Limerick/Tipperary border over Christmas has been remanded in custody until later this month.

Tomasz Rozpeda, aged 27, of no fixed abode, appeared before Judge Philip O’Leary at a sitting of Tipperary Town District Court in Nenagh this Wednesday.

Sergeant Cathal Godfrey, of Tipperary Town garda station, told the court that the defendant is charged with assault causing harm, contrary to section three of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act and applied to court for the defendant to be further remanded in custody.

Solicitor for the accused, Vincent McCormack, told the court that Mr Rozpeda did not wish to make a bail application and he asked for the matter to be put back for his client to appear in person.

Judge O'Leary noted this and he adjourned the case back to January 24.

Maciej Nowak, 32, was found dead at a house in Ballycrana, Kilross, on Wednesday, December 27, following what is believed to be an assault.

The property is located close to Galbally in Co. Limerick, where Mr Nowak was known to socialise.
