The drugs were seized during an operation in Clonlara
A MAN has appeared in court after he was charged in relation to a significant drugs seizure on the outskirts of Limerick city, gardai have confirmed.
As part of Operation Tara, gardaí arrested three men and seized €100,000 worth of suspected cocaine in Clonlara on Thursday, March 9.
Three individuals - two men and one woman all aged in their 20s - were arrested following the seizure and one has since appeared in court.
A garda spokesperson told Limerick Live: "He has appeared before a special sitting of Ennis District Court on Saturday, March 11. A man and a woman, both in their 20s, arrested as part of this investigation have been released from custody and a file will now be prepared for the DPP."
All three had been detained under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 at Henry Street garda station in Limerick city
This seizure forms part of Operation Tara; an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy, which was launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris on July 2, 2021.
The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels - international, national, local - involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.
