A HOST of budding Heston Blumenthals and Jamie Olivers were on hand in Broadford as the local national school launched a new fundraising cookbook recently.
Class Recipes features over 140 recipes from a wide variety of contributors, including Irish rugby star Paul O’Connell, Ireland soccer captain Robbie Keane, former international goalkeeper Shay Given and famous chef Darina Allen.
A local flair has been added by recipes from staff, parents and pupils of Broadford National School, as well as the local parish priest Fr Frank O’Dea, and the local postmaster, Tom O’Brien. All proceeds from the sale of the cookbook will go towards funding ongoing projects at the West Limerick school.
Last Friday night’s launch was attended by a host of people from the local community, and featured speeches from Helen Pierce, chairperson of the Broadford National School parents association, and Kathleen Barry, school principal.
Also in attendance were Fr O’Dea, former parish priest Canon James Ambrose, Cathaoirleach of Limerick County Council and local councillor Jerome Scanlan and Fine Gael TD Patrick O’Donovan.
As part of the launch, tributes were paid to everyone involved in the production of the book, including cover designer Mairead Sexton and Lillian White, who co-ordinated the book’s production.
Class Recipes has now gone on sale for €10 and is available from a number of local outlets, including Moloney’s Shop, Yeronga hair salon, the post office and the national school in Broadford.
In Dromcollogher, copies of the book can be purchased from Meaney’s Centra, Hannah’s hair salon and O’Connor’s butchers. The book is also available now at The Book Shop in Newcastle West, as well as Garvey’s SuperValu and Marguerite’s restaurant and bakery.
A copy of the book can also be posted out to you if you contact 086-8068074.
