BALLYBROWN Smartphone Free Committee is set to host a meeting on the issues for young people online including a demonstration to show parental controls to make devices safer.
A Garda Juvenile Liaison Officer will also speak to those present to highlight issues that are happening for young people online.
The meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 11 at 7.30pm in Ballybrown Community Resource Centre.
This meeting follows a recent well-attended event 'Let's talk Smartphones'. Psychologist Dr Maureen Griffin and Former Principal Dr Brian Barron spoke about the harms that face children on various online devices. Dr Griffin is involved with the 'AGree to Agree' Pilot project and Dr Barron is involved with the 'Gen Free free to be kids 'movement.

A spokesperson for Ballybrown Smartphone Free Committee said they gave advice on how to reduce these harms for young people. "It was a brilliant informative event. It was eye-opening."
"It was supported by St Joseph's NS Ballybrown and Ballybrown Community Resource centre. SICAP (Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme) helped greatly with flyers and posters to promote the event."
Ballybrown Smartphone Free Committee was formed in April 2025. The group is concerned about the harms that come to children online and they want to get the whole community involved to put measures in place to protect them.
They would also love clubs and societies to get involved by introducing policies around internet-connected devices.
