A 24-hour Craftathon was held in the Pastoral Centre in Doon and was organised by Doon native Norah Collins
NORAH Collins, a proud Doon native, recently organised the village’s first-ever 24-hour Craftathon in aid of the Samaritans, describing the event as “a great success”.
“To say I was gobsmacked is an understatement,” said Norah about the incredible amount of €2,360 raised for the Samaritans from the Craftathon.
Held in the Pastoral Centre in Doon, the Craftathon ran from 1pm on Saturday, August 9 to 1pm on Sunday, August 10, drawing in a lively crowd of crafters of all ages and abilities, including some with no experience at all.
“Throughout the day people came and went, tea was made and biscuits eaten, tears shed, loads of laughter and just plain good fun,” Norah shared.
In a touching nod to the cause, participants paused every 90 minutes, reflecting the Samaritans’ statistic that someone dies by suicide every 90 minutes in the UK or Ireland.
