THE IRISH Architecture Foundation (IAF) has announced the return of New Life, Old Buildings, an innovative programme that puts cities at the heart of the conversation about sustainable architecture and inclusive design.
This year, the spotlight is once again on Limerick, with a two day programme taking place on September 11 and 18, under the theme Future Heritage.
At a time of climate crisis and social change, Future Heritage asks: How can the buildings we already have become the rooms and spaces we need for today? What practices and choices of the present will shape the legacy of tomorrow?’

With in-person walking tours and site visits, to open table conversations and panel discussions, the programme is jam packed.
It invites the people of Limerick to imagine new possibilities for the buildings already standing in their streets and neighbourhoods.
It’s a chance to explore how these structures can be reimagined as shared, adaptable, and resilient spaces for modern life.
The Limerick-based events in September will be followed by national online webinars on October 23 and 24, connecting local conversations to broader discussions around Ireland’s architectural future.
With full programme details and ticket information available from September 1st on the IAF website, New Life, Old Buildings promises to bring together Limerick’s communities, architects, policymakers, and cultural voices to shape a vision of the city that reflects how its people live today and how they want to live tomorrow.
