Parks staff members working on O'Connell Street flower beds I PICTURE: Limerick City and County Council
LIMERICK City and County Council (LCCC) is advising the public of several ongoing maintenance and enhancement works in Limerick.
The works are part of the council’s “continued commitment to creating a more welcoming, vibrant, and enjoyable urban environment for residents and visitors alike”.
Some of the works in progress include the painting of park benches in Arthur’s Quay Park in order to bring “a cleaner, brighter, and more polished look to the park”, as well as the reinstatement of repainted picnic benches near Shannon Bridge.
A spokesperson for LCCC said that the picnic benches near Shannon Bridge “offer clean and attractive spots for outdoor dining, socialising, or simply taking in the view”.
“Their refurbishment supports a more enjoyable use of public spaces along the quays.”
The replanting of raised flowerbeds on O’Connell Street is now “largely completed”, the council confirmed, adding that “these flowerbeds beautify the streetscape, contribute to biodiversity and provide a more pleasant atmosphere for pedestrians and shoppers”.
The city is also benefitting from new railings on Sarsfield Bridge, which “enhance both the safety and visual appeal of this key city landmark and busy thoroughfare”, and the regular washing of Bedford Row, which “helps maintain a clean, safe, and visually appealing pedestrian zone”.

Roundabout cleaning will also be taking place in a variety of locations, including: Vistakon, Kilmurray, Castletroy Park, Garryglass, Tipperary Road, Kilmallock Road, Roxboro Road, Coonagh, Clondrinagh and all three roundabouts on the Dock Road.
The council extended “sincere thanks” to the Roads, Parks, Cleansing, and City Centre Response teams for their “ongoing dedication and hard work”.
“We kindly ask all members of the public to respect our staff and to be mindful of ongoing works in public areas,” the statement from LCCC continued.
“Your patience and cooperation help ensure these improvements are carried out safely and efficiently for everyone’s benefit.
“While council teams continue their work to maintain and improve our public spaces, we also encourage all residents and visitors to play their part.
“Please help us keep Limerick looking its best by: disposing of litter responsibly, using bins provided in public areas, cleaning up after pets and reporting any illegal dumping.
“Every small action makes a big difference. By working together, we can ensure that Limerick remains a clean, vibrant, and enjoyable place for everyone.”
