PICTURES: Local village first to hold St Patrick's Day parade

Crowds throng the streets of Newport for parade full of colour and fun

THE ORGANISERS of Newport's St Patrick's Day parade can relax this Sunday and Monday as they have theirs done and dusted!

The village close to the Limerick border is traditionally the first to hold their parade in the area and this year was no different as it held on Saturday.

Huge crowds turned out to see the spectacle, helped in no small part by the beautiful, sunny weather.

Marching bands, sports and youth clubs, vintage cars, tractors, local organisations, community and business floats and, of course, St Patrick himself were some of those to take to the streets.

They even had a flyover from a Coast Guard helicopter and Mrs Brown on a different kind of a chopper (motorbike).
