ENERGIA ALL-IRELAND LEAGUE MEN’S DIVISIONS – ROUND 11:
DIVISION 1A
YOUNG MUNSTER 37-20 TERENURE COLLEGE, TOM CLIFFORD PARK
YOUNG Munster RFC have moved up to third in the Energia All-Ireland League Division 1A table following a comprehensive 17-point victory over Terenure College at Tom Clifford Park.
The Limerick-based side got off to the perfect start after three minutes when Bailey Faloon touched down for the first try of the contest after some individual class in the build-up from Shay McCarthy.
The winger evaded a number of challenges before off-loading in style to the onrushing Faloon. Shane O'Leary was unable to convert from a tricky angle and Munsters' were up and running.
The next 15 minutes of the contest would see no tries but two penalties from the boot of Chris Cosgrave gave the visitors a 6-5 lead after 20 minutes.
Young Munster nudged ahead on the half hour mark, the home side taking advantage of Terenure captain Luke Clohessy being sent to the sin bin.
First, it was Seán McLoughlin to touch down for the hosts and with Luke Murphy following with a try of his own eight minutes later, it gave the Limerick side a 17-6 lead at the break.
Just as they did in the first half, the home side opened the second half with a try, when Jake O'Riordan intercepted a stray Terenure pass on the half-way line, there was to be no stopping him.
The ever-reliable Shane O'Leary converted and 'Munsters' now led 24-6.
Slattery's charges were dealt a temporary blow after 5o minutes when Faloon was sent to the bin and the visitors from Dublin took advantage when Aaron Egan touched down under the posts to leave the score at 24-13.
The game was put the bed minutes later when Oisín Pepper sliced through the Terenure defence and with O'Leary converting, followed by a penalty moments later, it left 'Munsters' in a commanding position with the scoreline reading 34-13.
Terenure did manage to score the final try of the game on 75 minutes to leave the score at 34-20 but it was to be Shane O'Leary who would have the final say of the contest, slotting over a penalty on 77 minutes to give the hosts a 37-20 win.
