THOMOND RFC will look to secure their place in Division 2C of the energia All-Ireland League for next season when facing Omagh Academical in a crucial play-off fixture at Thomas Mellon Playing Fields on Saturday, 2.30pm.
Thomond missed out on a chance to secure their qualification for the AIL earlier this month when going down to Bective Rangers in their All-Ireland Provinicial League Championship Final 39-34 at Cill Dara RFC earlier this month.
The back-to-back Munster Junior League Division 1 champions were left to rue a slow start to the contest, conceding five tries inside the opening 25 minutes before the Limerick side came roaring back with four tries of their own. Unfortunately for the Fitzgerald Park side, they had left themselves with too much to do in their bid to overhaul their opponents.
Saturday's opponents Omagh Academicals finished second from bottom in Division 2C of the after the regular season, winning just two and drawing two of their 18 league fixtures.
Thomond were also left to rue a slow start as they suffered a 24-21 defeat to Cork Constitution in their Munster Junior Cup semi-final at Temple Hill on Easter Sunday.
Thomond had trailed 7-21 at half-time. The Limerick side had tries from Sean Rice, Colin Slater and Colin McCarthy, all converted by Jason Kiely. Cork Con will face Old Crescent in the final at Vigrin Media Park in Cork on May 3.
