Thomond players, backroom team members and supporters celebrate their Munster Junior League Division 1 success
THOMOND RFC signed off on their record-breaking Munster Junior League Division 1 winning season with a runaway 59-5 victory over Skibbereen at Liam Fitzgerald Park on Sunday.
The win ensured that champions Thomond went through their Munster Junior League Division 1 season with a record 13 bonus point wins from their 13-game winning season. They are the first club to achieve the feat.
In Sunday's impressive victory over a mid-table Skibbereen side, Werner Kruger, Ryain Ahern and Jason Kiely scored two tries each, while Luke Costelloe, Cillian Moughty and Evan Maheralso crossed the whitewash.
Kiely kicked seven conversions in the convincing victory. Thomond have retained the trophy from last year.
Thomond were guaranteed the title when the defending champions defeated second placed Kilfeacle 32-14 at the start of the month.
This is a fourth league title success for Thomond and the Fitzgerald Park side will now face the Ulster Junior League champions in the semi-finals of the All-Ireland League qualifiers in April.
The successful Thomond RFC backroom team includes Director of Rugby Eddie Fraher, Head Coach Kevin O'Mahony, Coach Ken McNamara and Physio JB Baggott.
Thomond are in Munster Junior Cup action this Sunday when facing Limerick rivals Newcastle West in a big derby clash.
