Having a ball thanks to the mayor of Limerick

What a very glamorous and entertaining night we had at the annual Mayors Charity Ball in the Strand hotel last weekend.

It is wonderful to have a venue such as this in the centre of the city. As we all gathered in the foyer to a champagne reception I glanced around and thought what great style we have in Limerick. The variety of entertainment on the night was superb and included Fran O’Donnell who enthralled the audience with his rendition of the Coulin on his violin. Also another great Limerick musician Denis Allen entertained everyone with his composition Limerick You’re a Lady.

Actor and playwright Mike Finn narrated the wonderful history of Limerick city including all its favourite sons and daughters.

It was pleasure meeting Kevin O’Malley, US Ambassador to Ireland and his beautiful wife Dena. Ambassador O’Malley was nominated for the post of Ambassador to Ireland in 2014 by President Barack Obama.

Mayor of the City and County Liam Galvin acknowledged the great work being done to drive the Limerick 2020 bid for European Capital of Culture and also that the Irish economy and more particularly the Limerick economy is beginning to grow again.

The table prizes and goodie bags were fabulous and were all sponsored by: Matthew Stephens Jewellers, O’Mahonys Bookshop, RTE Lyric FM, Thornton’s Chocolates and Shannon Heritage.
