LIMERICK'S Laurel Hill Secondary School FCJ’s junior camogie team will play St Killian’s, of Antrim, this Sunday, February 22 in the All-Ireland Colleges Junior ‘C’ Camogie Championship semi-final in UL's South Campus, 12:30 pm.
The fixture pits Munster Junior Camogie champions, Laurel Hill Secondary School FCJ, against Ulster Junior Camogie Champions, St Killian’s, with the winners progressing to the final on February 28.
Laurel Hill Secondary School FCJ have progressed through a competitive Munster campaign beating schools from Waterford, Cork and Tipperary before eventually winning the Munster title on January 20 against Scariff Community School.
The team is jointly captained by Rosie McCaul (Na Piarsaigh) and Sophie O’Grady (Patrickswell) with a host of clubs across Limerick and Clare represented on the panel. The team is coached by school staff Sinead McNamara (Na Piarsaigh) and Diarmuid Byrnes (Murroe Boher) with Síle Moynihan (St Ailbe’s), John McKenna (Pallasgreen), Dearbhla Egan (Crecora), Shauna Tobin (Newcastle West) and Niamh Ryan (St. Ailbe’s) also involved.
Laurel Hill Secondary School FCJ’s recent achievements also extend off the playing field with former pupils Liz Anna Boylan, Muireann Leahy, Carla Griffin and Oralith Kelleher all being named as joint or vice-captains of the Limerick U-23 and Senior squads respectively for the season ahead.
Laurel Hill Secondary School FCJ had five players on UL’s winning Purcell Cup squad in recent weeks. The school will hope to achieve more success this weekend.
