The Limerick Senior Camogie side who face a vital game against Derry this Saturday
LIMERICK'S senior camogie side are back in action this Saturday as they travel to Derry for a vital clash in the Glen Dimplex All-Ireland Championship.
This fixture comes after a disappointing weekend of results, with both the Senior and Junior sides suffering defeats in their Glen Dimplex All-Ireland Championship games.
The Senior team were away to Waterford over the weekend where the Déise side showed their class winning on a scoreline of 5-15 to 0-9. This is the Limerick's side second defeat in the Championship after another loss against Kilkenny in their opening round game.
Waterford had the better start to the half with points from Beth Carton and Niamh Rockett to build up a five-point lead before Croagh Kilfinny’s Orlaith Kelleher got Limerick’s first point of the game.
Within a minute of Limerick’s first score, Waterford found the back of the net of their first of five goals in the game. Mairead O’Brien got her second goal five minutes before half-time to bring her tally of the half to 2-1. Half time and the scoreboard in
Walsh Park read Limerick 0-02 Waterford 2-11. The first score of the second-half went to Limerick as Rebecca Delee got a point from play, but it didn't take Waterford long to get going again. They rattled home three more goals in a ruthless second-half display to give them a big victory over Limerick.
The senior team will have to dust themselves off quickly as they face a trip to Derry this Saturday, June 8 in what is a must-win game for Joe Quaid's side.
Limerick's Junior camogie side were also defeated by Roscommon, 2-10 to 1-17 in Cappamore on Saturday.
This is the side's first defeat in the Premier Junior Championship after a fine display against Mayo in their opening game of the All-Ireland Championship.
David Deedy's side have a break from action this weekend before hosting Laois on Saturday, June 15. This is the second year in a row that Roscommon have gotten the better of the Limerick junior team and will be a team the Treaty ladies will. A weekend rest and recovery will bode well for the Limerick junior camogie side this weekend.
