'Sad to see' - Limerick city centre restaurant shuts its doors

Olive Tree restaurant was awarded the Munster Innovator of the Year at the Irish Restaurant Awards 2026.
A popular Limerick restaurant has shut its doors for the final time.
The Olive Tree based on George's Quay, close to the city centre, is no longer trading, Limerick Live has confirmed.
The restaurant's website states that the business is permanently closed.
A member of the public outside the restaurant said she was very sad to see the closure of the business, and that she will miss getting coffees at the small café that was attached to the premises.
Rafhael Barria - who worked as the head chef of the Olive Tree - said that he is saddened by the closure.
The restaurant was awarded the Munster Innovator of the Year at the Irish Restaurant Awards 2026.
The business served tapas, pizzas and Mediterranean-style food.
This marks the third business closure in Limerick city of late, with Life Style Sports on William Street, and La Piccola Italia on O'Connell Street also having announced closures in May 2026.
Abigail Hayden, a patron of the now-closed restaurant, said the food served at the Olive Tree was delicious.
“I’m sad to see another business in Limerick city close,” she said.
Limerick Live has contacted the Olive Tree for comment.
