Operator of coffee truck sought by Limerick City and County Council

FANCY setting up a coffee truck at Limerick’s Saturday market?

Well, Limerick City and County Council is seeking expressions of interest from potential traders.

Coffee shops on wheels are common sights at events across the world.

Now it appears the local authority is seeking a slice of the action, after inviting people to put forward proposals to set up a coffee truck at its Saturday market, located in the streets around the Milk Market.

Limerick City and County Council advertised the expression-of-interest process through a post on social media.

It read: “Limerick City and County Council supports casual traders to develop new products and markets and to support the historic markets".

The local authority can issue two types of casual trading licence - one for special events, and one general permission, which would be for more regular uses.

These allow traders to sell goods in public areas and designated trading areas, like the Saturday market in Limerick city centre.

Due to the demand to trade in the urban area, they have stated a waiting list is in operation.

In order to qualify for a casual licence, any trader will need to have insurance cover.

They would need to have public liability insurance of €6.5m – this is insurance covering the trader against claims if a customer is injured or their property is damaged.

On top of this, a trader is required to have product liability insurance cover to the same amount.

Product liability insurance is for claims arising from products sold by the trader.

Finally, €13m of Employers’ Liability Insurance cover needs to be in place.

This is insurance covering the trader against claims from employees injured or ill as a result of their work.
