A pet friendly business initiative for Limerick has been welcomed
A PET-friendly business initiative has been approved by the council.
This will give businesses the opportunity to be listed on the Limerick.ie website as being pet friendly.
Aontu councillor Sarah Beasley said that she was delighted that fellow metropolitan district councillors passed her motion and recognise the importance of pets to people spending time in the city.
“This isn't just about stickers in windows - though those are important.
“This is about creating an official, searchable directory so that residents and visitors can easily find pet-friendly cafes, restaurants, shops and services across Limerick,” Cllr Beasley said.
She added that it will be a really practical benefit for people making plans in Limerick, to see where pets will be welcomed.

“More and more people have pets and they want to include them in their daily lives.
“Businesses that welcome pets aren't just being kind - they're being smart.
“They're tapping into a loyal customer base that will return again and again.”
Cllr Beasley added that this will also put Limerick on the map as a pet-friendly destination.
“People travelling with pets actively seek out cities and towns that welcome them.
“Now, Limerick will have an official brand and directory to showcase the welcome.”
The motion first came to the Limerick metropolitan district meetings in October.
Cllr Beasley thanked the team in economic and tourism development for moving forward with the practical elements of making this initiative a reality.
The Aontu councillor urged businesses to register once the directory goes live on Limerick.ie.
Designers have now been appointed to develop the pet-friendly brand.
A web page is being developed for listings and there will be an upcoming launch event.
