Another chapter closes: Limerick loses longstanding store after over a decade of trading

The local book shop has closed down

A LIMERICK book shop has closed down after 13 years of trading in the city.

Book Stand located in the Parkway Shopping Centre, formerly Eason shut its doors on May 31 and announced the closure on a notice outside the store.

The Manager of Parkway Shopping Centre, Liam Gleeson commented on the closure, saying:

"I am very sorry to see 'Bookstand' leaving the centre at a time when so many new stores are opening here.

"In recent months 'Mini-India', 'Half Price Ink' and “Zeetech” have opened at the centre. Additionally, “Chemist Warehouse” have announced that their opening of a very large store is imminent at the centre whilst work is also currently progressing rapidly on the old 'Burger King' unit at the front of the centre where yet another new tenant will take open their doors in the next few months.

Mr Gleeson added that he had a great relationship with the staff who worked at 'Bookstand' and will certainly miss their presence. "I wish them every success as they pursue new employment. We set to work now on filling that unit and I am hopeful within the next few short months we can offer yet another new offering to our loyal customers."

Book Stand operate over 60 outlets in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, the flagship being their store in O’Connell Street, Dublin. They stock an extensive range of books, newspapers, magazines, greeting cards, and stationery. Some shops also stock music, video, DVD’s, toys, and computer accessories.
