Up to 150 jobs to go at Three Ireland as cost-cutting measures are confirmed

Up to 150 people are facing redundancy at Three Ireland, it has been confirmed.

The telecommunications company, which is headquartered in Dublin, employs around 500 people at its customer experience centre in Limerick as well as hundreds of more in its network of retail stores across the country.

It's not clear which areas of the business will be impacted by this Thursday's announcement, with a spokesperson for the firm saying the exact number and location of redundancies will be determined in due course.

"Prior to reaching this difficult decision, Three Ireland has implemented a number of measures in a bid to reduce operating costs. However, the business continues to experience commercial performance challenges, with lower earnings and margin growth year on year, as operating costs continue to increase.

"The measures announced today (Thursday) position the business on a stronger platform for the future, ensuring it can maintain its market leading position and will enable growth," the Three Ireland spokesperson added.

It's understood staff were informed of the decision at a briefing -  held by videolink -  this Thursday afternoon but that those directly affected will not be informed until after March 8.

During the briefing, management did not disclose which departments would be impacted.

It's understood any job losses will be compulsory.
