A POPULAR gaming retailer has announced it's to close all of its Irish stores, including three in Limerick.

GameStop has stores in the city - at including William Street, Parkway Shopping Centre and the Crescent Shopping Centre.

While the company made the announcement on social media this Friday morning, the final closing date has not been confirmed.

“We are disappointed to announce that GameStop Ireland will be closing. But while we're here, we've got a range of discounts across hundreds of items. Once they're gone, they're gone,” read a post from the company.

The loss-making American-owned company reduced services in its 35 Irish stores in March when it stopped selling gift cards and taking pre-orders.

GameStop has been steadily reducing its presence in Ireland over the past decade, having operated over 50 stores in 2010.

The remaining stores in Limerick and across the country are expected to close by the summer.

The exact number of job losses is unclear.
