AMBITIOUS proposals to construct a 50 bedroom budget hotel beside the Unicorn Bar in Dooradoyle have been given conditional planning permission.

AMBITIOUS proposals to construct a 50 bedroom budget hotel beside the Unicorn Bar in Dooradoyle have been given conditional planning permission.

According to detailed plans lodged with Limerick County Council, Anne Greene sought permission for a hotel development with underground car parking.

The proposals will see two houses currently situated between the Unicorn and the roundabout of St Paul’s Church demolished.

The hotel is to provide American style semi-catering rooms, as well as a gym. The Unicorn will act as the main bar and restaurant area of the hotel.

Despite 13 objections, Limerick County Council has cleared the way for the €4m development.

It is unclear if any of the objectors will appeal the council’s decision to An Bord Pleanala.
