LIMERICK is tripping the light fantastic, with the erection of a series of new signs advertising car parking space capacity.

In the last few weeks, Limerick City Council’s transport department have put up car parking capacity signs at a variety of strategic locations across the city.

Using digital technology, these show those driving into the city the number of car parking spaces available in various key car parks.

Mayor Jim Long has welcomed the signs - and said more are on the way.

“I am glad to see the signs are up. Like other major cities, it is nice to know for people coming into the city, or the residents, that there are spaces available and where they are,” he said.

He added it is another “welcome gesture” for visitors and locals: “We will be in a position to the middle of next year that there will be other neon signs going up advertising distances, traffic jams, and how long it will take to get to your destination.”
