A PERIOD mansion with its own heated indoor swimming pool and tennis court has gone on the market for €325,000 – down from over €1m.

A PERIOD mansion with its own heated indoor swimming pool and tennis court has gone on the market for €325,000 – down from over €1m.

The vast reduction in the price of Springfield House in Kilmallock – the family home of the late Maurice Power who served as State solicitor for Limerick County – is expected to generate plenty of interest according to the selling agent, Richard Ryan of GVM in Kilmallock.

“We have had people to see it – there has been a reasonable amount of interest but this price reduction will, I would imagine, change things significantly. It is certainly exceptionally good value for money,” said Mr Ryan who described the fall in price as a “significant reduction”.

“It would have been valued at that [over €1m] in the peak. The bigger properties have been probably hit more so than the middle end of the market,” he said.

Set on 4.5 acres on the edge of the town of Kilmallock, the three-storey house boasts three reception rooms, a large kitchen, five bedrooms and various other rooms. The large kitchen is complete with an Aga stove and a utility room.

The property has oil fired central heating.

Across the courtyard at the back of the house is an old stone coach house containing two stables.

The interior of the house features high-ceilinged rooms - as well as the swimming pool, gym and tennis court.

“It’s liveable as it is but you could modernise it as you go along,” said Mr Ryan.

“The house itself has many fine rooms with unusual features and although it does need some renovation works, it presents itself as a very fine home with its own private indoor swimming pool, tennis court and very useful coach house and at a price that is extremely attractive,” he added.

Springfield which is located on the Kilfinane/Tipperary Road - at the crossroads to Martinstown - is within a two minute walk from the town centre of Kilmallock.

Amenities located within walking distance include the newly refurbished library and courthouse building, the People’s Hall, the GVM mart, the local town park and GAA and soccer grounds.

Mr Ryan feels that this property provides “the ideal package” for a family that wants to be close to an urban environment and its amenities and have all the benefits of country living.

The house, Mr Ryan said, would be ideally suited for a family.

“I think it would make a lovely family home – it is exceptionally affordable. There are lovely grounds and gardens with mature trees. It has plenty of character,” he said.
