A UNIVERSITY of Limerick spin-out firm has created a video-on-demand solution for tourists to the city.
Visitor TV International, based in the Nexus Innovation Centre, has designed a product which is believed to be the first of its kind.
Codenamed ‘VisitorFlix’ – a play on Netflix – the product is aimed at visitor attractions, hotels, tour operators, transport firms and destination marketing agencies.
Working with the Limerick Marketing Company, Visitor TV International has created an interactive video-on-demand library offering 30 second videos of the city’s main tourist attractions, and hotels.
The idea came after the company had a hotel bedroom information channel.
This led to feedback from tourist attractions who wanted to advertise to people planning their trip to Limerick before they got here.
“In today’s very competitive marketplace, tourism industry promoters need to reach, engage with and capture more consumers who have far greater power to choose their promotional material and demand high quality promotional video content regardless of location to make more informed travel decisions,” says Martin O’Regan, visitor development manager at the firm.
The videos will be grouped by category so viewers can browse by interest – activities, indoor and outdoor dining, entertainment, family fun, festivals and events, hens and stags, history, arts and culture.
After viewing each video on Visitorflix partner websites, visitors can view the location on an interactive map, get in contact and booking details and share or promote their video through Facebook and Twitter.
Limerick.ie will be one of the first destination marketing companies to offer VisitorFlix videos to visitors researching or planning a vacation.
Tourist attractions can feature their videos for €99 plus VAT. They are asked to apply by contacting the 1890-211211 before April 2.
