New Limerick car parking site almost ready

A new car park will open at the Opera Centre site next week
DEMOLITION work at Michael Street/Ellen Street to provide 80 new car parking spaces has been completed.

DEMOLITION work at Michael Street/Ellen Street to provide 80 new car parking spaces has been completed.

The former Workspace studios and Tiger Lillies have now been demolished, and work is under way this week on laying out the disc parking zone inside the Opera Centre site.

Limerick City Council director of services for economic development and planning Tom Enright said it is hoped to have the parking spaces in place for the Christmas week.

“We are very pleased to be adding this infrastructure to the city centre and are very hopeful that it will, in the short term, encourage more activity in the city centre. We anticipate that the extra car parking which is a disc parking zone will be completed before Christmas,” he said.

It is hoped this move will make it easier for shoppers using the Ellen Street market, with traders expected to be encouraged to put their vans in there.
