FINANCE for the realignment of a dangerous section of the N21 outside Newcastle West will be made available, a Limerick TD has insisted.
Fine Gael’s Patrick O’Donovan said that he has received assurances from Minister for Transport, Leo Varadkar, that the multi-million euro plans to straighten and improve the section of road where five people lost their lives in 2010 will go ahead.
Deputy O’Donovan said that the project is considered ‘live’ as it was allocated €250,000 in NRA funding this year. Cuts to the roads budget, he said, refer to projects which have not yet begun.
“When people first heard that road projects were going to be suspended, some feared it would affect the works on the N21”, Deputy O’Donovan said. “I asked the Minister to confirm that the funding was secured, and he has done that”.
