BRITISH discount chain Poundland is to open its third outlet in the Republic of Ireland at the old Newsoms building in William Street.
Trading under the name ‘Dealz’, the retailer will offer branded and non-branded food, toiletries, stationary and household items at a single price point of €1.49. The stores are hugely popular in the UK, with prices starting from £1.
It is believed the retailer has signed a long-term lease to operate in the city centre, and this opening represents the firm’s first store in the Munster region.
Poundland chief executive Jim McCarthy said: “We know that there is an appetite from Irish consumers for a discount retailer that offers real value. Just like Poundland in the UK, we’re anticipating busy stores from day one with queues of value savvy shoppers.”
‘Dealz’ has signed deals with Irish suppliers, including Barry’s Tea, Tayto Crisps, and Jacob Fruitfield among others.
