The scene of the fire at Pery Street
A NUMBER of buildings have been evacuated in Limerick city centre after a fire broke out this Thursday lunchtime.
The alarm was raised shortly after 1pm when flames and smoke were observed coming from a premises at Pery Street, close to Davis Street and Pery Square.
Dozens of people, including a large number of HSE staff, who work in offices and businesses in the area were evacuated and emergency services contacted.
Gardai and personnel from Limerick Fire and Rescue are in attendance and the area has been cordoned off and closed to traffic.
The fire appears to have broken out in a outdoor storage area and there are no initial reports of any injuries.
Following their arrival at the scene, fireman equipped with breathing apparatus, entered the adjacent underground car park to ensure it was clear.
The cause of the fire is not yet known
