GARDAI in Limerick are investigating the discharge of a firearm at a residential premises in Limerick city overnight.

A garda spokesperson said the shooting incident occurred at approximately 11.30pm on Monday evening in the Hyde Road area.

"No injuries were reported. There are no arrests at this time. Investigations are ongoing," said the garda spokesperson.

Gardai have sealed off the area in preparation for a full technical and forensic examination.

One local told the Limerick Leader / Limerick Live: "I didn't hear the shots but when I looked out my window there were a load of gardai out on the street. I didn't know what was going on."

The motive behind the shooting is not known at this time.

Investigating gardaí at Roxboro Road crime office are seeking to speak with any witnesses who were in the vicinity of Hyde Road, Colbert Station, Parnell Street and other surrounding areas between 11pm and 11.45pm on Monday, May 15..
