Positive weekend for Limerick sides in Domino's Super League and Division One Play-Off action

IT was a relatively positive weekend for Limerick sides competing in Domino's Super League and Division One Play-Off action.

There were wins for the Limerick Celtics and the Limerick Sport Huskies in the Women's Division One action whilst the Limerick Sport Eagles were triumphant in Men's Division One action. 

The solitary Limerick loss over the weekend came via the Limerick Celtics Men's side in Super League action. 

Tony Hehir's Limerick Celtics were defeated by top seeds Ballincollig progressed to the semi-finals of the Domino’s Men’s Super League playoffs after a 91-83 triumph over Limerick Celtics in the MTU Arena on Saturday.

Despite holding the lead for the majority of the first and second quarters, Celtics ran them close a few times, with Ballincollig only building a double-digit lead heading into the half-time break.

The third quarter is where Ballincollig started to assert dominance, with Latavious Mitchell scoring eight of his 20 points in the third quarter. Ballincollig entered the fourth quarter with a 75-58 lead.

Celtics showed resilience as the final quarter commenced, starting off the fourth with a 10-0 run, through an Eoghan Donaghy three, followed by scores from Tony Hauser and AJ Williams.

Ballincollig held on for the remainder of the fourth, with Latrell Jossell getting eight of his 19 in the final five minutes of action to give Ballincollig the win.

The Limerick Celtics Women's side overcame the challenge of Swords Thunder at Crescent College on Saturday.

Jordan Hehir's charges were 81-73 victors on the day, a result which puts the Celtics in the final four of this season Domino's Women's Division One. 

Joining the Celtics in the final four will be fellow Limerick side, the Sport Huskies. 

Patrick O'Regan's side defeated Clunetech Kilkenny Stars on a scoreline of 77-49 at the LETT'S which now sets up an all-Limerick affair in the semi-final between the Celtics and the Huskies. 

Date and time to be confirmed. 

In Domino's Men's Division One action, the Limerick Sport Eagles comprehensively dispatched of Dublin's Moy Tolka Rovers on a scoreline of 87-70, a result which puts Niall McDermott's side in the final four.

Next up for the Eagles in the final four is a repeat of this years National Cup final, where they will face off against Drogheda Wolves on Saturday at home.
