Around the Country:
THERE was a huge turnout for the Grange Fermoy 10K in North Cork on New Years Eve. Bilboa’s Pamela Kirby seventh woman in 39:41, with Karol Downey, of West Limerick, first ‘Treaty man’ home in 39:30.
The Women’s race was though actually won by Limerick native Jessica Coyne, formerly of Dooneen AC. Representing Leevale she crossed the line first in a time of 33:57.
Beaufort 5k:
Starting 2026 on the right foot Geovani Costa Rios, of West Limerick, was third in the 5K in a time of 17:34 in an event hosted by Star of the Laune AC.

Parkrun:
With both Limerick City Parkruns again falling foul of the frost there was a large number of 'exiles' in Clarisford’ last Saturday.
And it was a ‘Dooneen double’ in the Banner County as John Whitaker was first overall in a time of 18:15 with Shona Keane first woman in 20:36m, closely followed by Susan Murnane in 20:40. There was also a brillant overall PB for Cillian Ward in 20:58.
West Limerick AC Members take on Carrauntoohil
Club members Kieran Carr, Garry Carroll, Mark Lenihan and Martin Lyons took a well-deserved break from road running over the holidays and instead ran/climbed Carrauntoohill! Well Done!

Robert Costello won the Nike sponsored Limerick 10 Mile in aid of St Camillus hospital in a time of 47:55. It was a top class field with the great Jerry Kiernan second in 49:22, Richie Clifford third in 49:44 and John Scanlon fourth in 50:45.
Fixtures
The Limerick County Indoor Championships take place next weekend 11 th January in Nenagh. For some younger athletes it will be a first time representing their club whereas others are more experienced. U9-U11’s will be first, with athletes limited to two Track and one Field event.
The Tom Walsh Memorial 10K Run and 5 Mile Walk takes place at 12 noon in Caherconlish on next Sunday also.
The Adare 10K takes place on Sunday, February 22, but for anyone who missed out on a place, the Milford Hospice 10K 2026 will take place on the same day from the University of Limerick. Entries through Evenmtaster.
The Dooneen 10 Mile Road Race returns in memory of Michal Rejmer takes place on Sunday, March 29, welcoming runners of all abilities to established event held in memory of our late club member who sadly passed away in 2015.
Now in its fifth year, the race has become a valued fixture on the local running calendar, combining strong community support with a classic road-running challenge.
The 10-mile distance long regarded as one of the traditional and most respected race distances in athletics, provides an ideal test for both experienced competitors and those looking to step up from shorter events towards the longer distances like half marathon and marathon later in the season.
The race is hosted at the Limerick Racecourse, offering an excellent venue and facilities, while the course itself takes in the scenic countryside surrounding Patrickswell and Crecora, providing a challenging yet enjoyable route.
Organisers are encouraging runners to turn early-year fitness goals into a tangible objective by targeting the Dooneen 10 Mile as part of their spring racing plans.
To mark the five-year anniversary of the event, the first 250 registered participants will receive a specially designed commemorative race T-shirt, included as part of their entry so don’t miss out!!
The Dooneen 10 Mile continues to reflect the spirit of community, remembrance, and participation, honouring the legacy of Michal Rejmer while offering a professionally run and well-supported race experience.
