The Limerick AC U14 4x500m mixed Relay team during the National Autumn Cross County & Relays at the Sport Ireland National Cross Country Track in Abbotstown

Autumn Open Cross Country and Relays

THE Autumn Open Cross Country and Relays took place in Abbotstown and doubling as a qualifier for the forthcoming British and Irish Masters Cross-Country Carmel MacDomhnail was third in the F70 category in a time of 28:46.

West Limerick clubmate Killian Lynch was 38 th in the Senior men’s race in a time of 27:37. An Bru’s Niall Shanahan was fourth M40 and as a top-6 finisher automat qualifies for the Irish Masters team.

Niall O'Callaghan was seventh M40 in a time of 27:53. Karl Lenihan was eighth M45 in a time of 29:16. Shane Ryan and Brian Jenkins represented Dooneen, Gary Egan ran for An Bru.

The Masters Cross Country International takes place in Leeds in three weeks with final selection announced midweek.

It was a very successful day for Limerick AC in the Juvenile Relays as three sides annexed medals on the national stage.

The ‘LAC’ mixed Relay won the U14 race and featured Gabriella O’Neil, Rian Kiely Keogan, Crea Moore and Killian Coman. Their time of 5:40 was four seconds clear of Moy Valley.

‘Limerick’ were second in the Mixed U12 (narrowly missing out on Gold, awarded same time as the winning St Cronans team), running superbly were Keeva McLoughlin, Conall Redmond, Alana Ryan and Jake O’Connor. At U13 the ‘Limerick’ Girls also calimed Silver through Rachael Ryan, Aayla Comyns, Lori McPahil and Zara Coman.

European Masters Track and Field Championships

Dooneen’s Tim Ryan was part of the Irish team which took Silver in the mixed 400m relay. He also reached the semi-final of the individual 200 , coming 5 th in a time of 26:58.

Dromtrasna Challenge, 5K/10 Run, 2K and 4K walk

A large number of Limerick athletes, mostly from the west of county took part in this event in Abbeyfeale in aid of Milford Hospice and St. Ita’s Community Hospital. There was a West Limerick AC double in the 5K as Grace O’Donnell 21:03 and Jakub Winicki 18.28 were respective winners. Also John Paul O'Connell 18.33.

In the 10K ‘W.L’ were again victorious as John Fitzgerald won in 36.10, other times included Caleb Morris 42.35 and Catherine Doody 52.58.

Parkrun

Gerry Campbell, father of Dooneen’s Nicole completed his 150th Parkun at UL. Times at UL included Anthony Harty (Dooneen) 18:42 and Pamela Kirby (Bilboa) 19:31. In Mungret JJ Cremin, of An Bru, was second 19:35.

Obituary

Limerick athletics wish to express their condolences to the family of Vadim Lisanki of Kilmallock AC on his recent passing. The loss of Cormac Liddy, former Limerick Leader Sports editor is also felt. May they both rest in peace.

1986

Joe Chawke recalls injury a month in advance and only deciding the night before to actually run the D.C.M. He started slowly but was still able to finish strongly for a time of 2:45, which given 24 hours previous he wasn’t even intending on doing the marathon, he was still really happy about!

1987

Neil Cusack was 14th in the Dublin City Marathon in a time of 2:25:18. Other times included the husband and wife pair of Mike MacDonald 2:29 and Carmel MacDomhnaill (3:40), Seamus Cawley 2:40, Noel Spellacy 3:39, Tommy Madden 2:39, West Limerick Chair Deirdre Barrett was first Limerick lady, also 3:16, Mary Cronin 3:32, Carmel Ryan 3:58, Fr Denis Browne Donoughmore Parish 4:02

Abroad

Limerick’s Ava Crean won the Manchester Half Marathon in pb time of 1:14:06. Bilboa’s Rachel Coleman ran the Amsterdam Marathon in a time of 3:55.

Training Tip

"In the final two days before the marathon, don't try anything new or unfamiliar from a nutrition or hydration perspective. Stick to foods and products that you've tried and tested in training, and which you know you will have no difficulty tolerating."  - Mike Carmody

Fixtures

A large number of Limerick Athletes travel to the Capital for the 45 th edition of the Dublin Marathon which is of course our National Championships. Dooneen, Limerick AC, West Limerick, Back to Boston and An Bru will be some of those aiming for honours.

The Munster Senior & U23 and Juvenile Uneven Age Cross Country take place on Sunday, November 2 in Two-Mile-Borris, Co. Tipperary

The Limerick County Masters Cross Country and Juvenile Uneven Age Championships take place on November 9 in Newcastle West events with the distance as follows Women 4000m Men 6000m.

The Tom Walsh Memorial 10K Run and 5 Mile walk 2026 takes place on Sunday, January 11 from the Millenium

Registration for the Curtis Londis Adare 10k 2026 will open on Friday, October 31 at 6am.
